2012 Family Math and Science Night
Tuesday February 21, 2012
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Pennsylvania College of Technology - Field House
Technology Futures of North Central PA (TechFutures) will sponsor a Science Festival on Tuesday February 21, 2012 from 6pm - 8pm. The event will be held at the Field House on the campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology. This event will build upon the highly successful Family Math and Science Night held last February at Cochran School, which was geared toward elementary aged children and their families. Last year TechFutures had the best turnout ever with over 200 students along with their parents. The tremendous turnout far exceeded expectations and reinforced the efforts of participants to provide a fun and exciting opportunity for students to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Anna Griffith, President of Technology Futures of North Central PA and CEO of Discovery Machine, Inc, feels that innovation will drive growth in North Central PA. Her vision is to bring together people who share a vital interest in technology advancement and economic development, so that their shared goals can drive innovation into the future.
This year Tech Futures plans to take the Science Festival to the next level by holding the event at Penn College and extending the invitation to not only elementary students at Cochran School, but also middle and high school students in Williamsport and Loyalsock Area School Districts. High school students will create marketing collateral to promote the event as well as serve as Ambassadors to encourage the younger students to get involved. Among the events highlighted at the science festival are a variety of company table-top demonstrations, interactive media demonstrations, and educational demonstrations that represent the significance of math and science in our everyday lives.
The science festival is affiliated with the USA Science & Engineering Festival which is the nation's largest celebration of all things science & engineering. The Science Festival will be a satellite event of the USA Science & Engineering Festival and will be listed on their online Affiliate Festival Directory which will give the event regional emphasis. Last year's festival attracted over 500,000 people of all ages and had strong support from the White House and Congress. The national science festival was designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers with school programs and nationwide contests throughout the 2012/2013 school year. For more information about the festival visit: www.usasciencefestival.org.
Come out and join us to re-invigorate the interest of our youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by supporting the most compelling, exciting, educational, and entertaining science festival in the North Central PA.
